Milan 2015
Milan 2015

Today, I find myself reminiscing about the wonderful times I had while living in Milan back in May 2015. I’m not sure if it was the shopping, the delicious food, or the weekend trips where we easily caught trains to other cities, but I can say that every day was a joy. We lived in a nice condo called Solaria, a modern skyscraper in the heart of Milan. From our living room, we could see the foothills of the Alps on clear days, and the location was unbeatable.

One of the fabulous places in Milan is Corso Como, part of our neighborhood, where most nights we dined. It was filled with cool restaurants, and we found that "Ristorante Alla Cucina delle Langhe" was our favorite. It's a must-try to try the Risotto Barelo and Chicken Curry with rice pilaf, accompanied by a bottle of Sicilian wine. Actually, I’m not a big fan of Risotto, but it came from a highly recommended voice named Logan, a young American who speaks brilliant Italian and who sat right next to our table. We tried it and LOVED it! Not only was the food extremely good, but the service was outstanding! If anyone has a thirst for a happy hour, the place to go is Corso Como 10 - it’s a beautiful city garden courtyard with a boutique shop that sells works of art, fashion, music, and design.

Speaking of shopping, Milan is the fashion and design capital, offering everything for the discerning shopper. Go to Montenapoleone, an upscale shopping street where all the designers’ brands are found. Even if you’re not into shopping, you’ll still enjoy the ambience. Galleria Vittorio Emanuele, the world’s oldest shopping mall (The Milanese joke that only tourists shop in Galleria Vittorio Emanuele. Locals, on the other hand, prefer the city’s many outlet stores and are prepared to elbow their way through rack after rack of cut-rate catwalk fashions to find the best bargains. I found myself enjoying shopping at the Brera district, home to Milan’s best boutiques known for “Made in Italy” fashions. The Navigli is the canal shopping area where you’ll be able to experience the flea market every Sunday, and also don’t miss the Porta Ticinese and Via Torino for some local shops. Including a major street with over one hundred shops and outlets called Corso Buenos Aires.

For sightseeing, it is of course the landmark Duomo Milano, and this will be more interesting if you get to the roof-top of Duomo for the panoramic view and will be in awe of the marble stone work, the rooftop Leonardo Davinci’s Last Supper, and the Sforza Castle.  Other than that, we took an hour or two train rides to nearby towns like Venice, Como, Verona, and Vigevano during the weekends for a getaway from the fashion city. To me, it was a wonderful experience, and I found that I was more independent and able to get around by myself in the new environments. Many thanks to my dear husband for everything.

Bye for now, Milan. Until we meet again, Italy. Ciao!
